California's
Oldest Used Book Store
Sometime
during 1902, two brothers, Ernest
and Thomas Angel, opened a book store at 1257 Broadway in Oakland,
California. In 1904,
they moved the store four blocks down Broadway to 464 Eighth Street,
and by 1905, they
were out of business. Not a very auspicious beginning for what would
become one of the
oldest book stores in California.... more

Discussion & Book Signing
Author
Tom Mates leads a
lively discussion of politics, religion, and American history,
introducing his new book:
A Judeo-Islamic Nation:
The Evolution of America's Political Theology
Far
from being a fixed source of moral absolutes, religious beliefs vary
greatly from believer to believer and from age to age. In the case of
Christianity, prevailing beliefs have evolved to
the point of bearing
almost no relation at all to the original religion. In fact the
religion regularly injected into American politics, because of its
worldly orientation, bears a stronger resemblance to Judaism and Islam
than it does to actual Christianity. This new book explains America's
Judeo-Islamic faith, and explores some of the ways in which it has
evolved during our nation's history.
