Celebrating 120 years of bookselling

September 30, 2022

In 1902, two brothers, Ernest and Thomas Angel, opened a book store at 1257 Broadway in Oakland, California. It had various owners over the years and in 1933, then-owner Max Richter moved the store to 15 East Anapamu Street in Santa Barbara where it has remained.  Eric Kelley has been the proprietor since 1979.
Please join us at the Book Den on First Thursday, October 6 from 5 pm to 9 pm, for a little celebration. We’ll have some displays and book store historian Charles Johnson will be on hand. And there might be a glass wine or two.

Fun fact: The staff of five working at the Book Den have a total of 198 years of bookselling experience.
