The Clockmaker, or the Sayings & Doings of Samuel SlickThe Clockmaker, or the Sayings & Doings of Samuel Slick
Author: Slick, Samuel
( (T.C. Haliburton) )
Richard Bentley, London, 1837. 3/4 leather over mabled paper.
Very good overall for its age; rubbing to leather of spine; forecorners rubbed & frayed; light foxing throughout. On front pastedown is bookplate of George Merryweather (1794-1870), distinguished British physician and inventor. The bookplate features a mailed fist holding the Rod of Asclepius in the form of a sword with a snake coiled around both glove and sword. This is the first bestseller in Canadian history.
