Join us for tales of
adventure on the high seas, as we welcome Christian Beamish,
and the Cormorant, the Shetland Isle-inspired
sailboat built by Beamish, to The Book Den. The
Cormorant will
be displayed in front of The
Book Den.
In his book, The Voyage of the Cormorant, Beamish describes
building the Cormorant, equipping
it with a canvas boat tent
and a gas stove, and sailing it solo down the
Coast of Baja.
| "I
built Cormorant as a wilderness surfing vehicle. With a canvas boat
tent, gas stove, and a couple of surfboards, I have made numerous
single-handed expeditions to the Santa Barbara Channel Islands as well
as along the Pacific Coast of Baja, including, most recently, a 500
miles journey from San Diego to Cedros Island through the months of
January and February. I view these travels aboard my Shetland
Isle-inspired craft as a "living experiment" in a longstanding form of
ocean work." |
Christian Beamish, the former
associate editor of The Surfer's Journal, is a writer, surfer, sailor,
dedicated boat builder and fisherman. He is a senior writer at
Surfer magazine and continues to look for connections to his
essential humanity in "full wilderness immersion surf travel."
